On hiatus from Deerhoof's busy touring schedule, Chris Cohen could not restrain himself from writing and recording the 13 songs on The Curtains' Calamity. Making a record in the wrong way (with no band and no label) at the wrong time (when juggling bands would have been impossible) was truly an uncalculated and quixotic move. But calamities are caused by the sudden release of latent energy when opposing forces collide, and that's exactly where the name of The Curtains 4th album comes from. For Chris the album was pretty much inevitable.
